Smyth To Run “At Large”
Receives Endorsement from Three-Term Newport City Councilor Angela (McCalla) Lima
Sixth-generation Newporter, Steph Smyth (pronounced sm-EYE-th), today announced she will run At-Large for Newport’s City Council.
A graduate of Rogers High who went on to earn her MBA and PhD, said: “ I’m a detail-oriented individual who listens and enjoys bringing people together to solve problems.”
Smyth has worked in hospitality, for the Newport School Department, at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, and is currently a Senior Contracts Administration Management Officer and Workforce Resolution Facilitator at the Naval War College.
“I’m running for Council to put the skills I’ve learned to work for the City and, hopefully, bridge the divide between a prevailing mentality of “us vs them” and “old vs new,” continued Smyth.
A member of the NAACP Newport Chapter, Involve Newport, and the 2022 Charter Review Commission, Smyth currently serves as a Commissioner on the City’s Tree and Open Space and Affirmative Action committees.
Steph received the endorsement of three-term Newport City Councilor Angela (McCalla) Lima who earlier today announced she’s not seeking re-election.
Education, housing, resiliency, infrastructure, and transportation are among Smyth’s top areas of focus.
